Ever Bilena Famous Lipstick in Sparkling Ruby

Another one of the prizes I won from the Peachy Pink Sisters’ giveaway was a tube of Ever Bilena’s Famous lipstick in Sparkling Ruby.

You’ll notice that its packaging is a rip-off of Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick. I wish they’d put more effort in conceptualizing packaging. Rip-offs come off as cheesy.

Sparkling Ruby is red with pink undertones and silver shimmer. It retails for P160.
Here’s an arm swatch:
And here’s how it looks on my lips:
It looks hot pink in the photo, but it’s actually a deeper red in person. It’s neither frosted nor glittery; the silver shimmer serves to make the color look glossy.

I found the texture kinda weird. For a red lipstick, it’s very easy to apply; it has no drag at all. It just glides on the lips. Also, it does not adhere well to the moister insides of the lips, so you have to make sure your lips are dry. This can be applied over lip balm; just make sure you apply the least amount of balm possible. To ensure an even coating of color, I apply one layer, blot it with tissue, apply another layer, then blend with a finger.

The lipstick has a plasticky scent and taste. It’s unpleasant, but it does not bother me much since it fades after a while.

Now, let’s summarize:

The Good

  • Inexpensive at P160
  • Pretty color

The Bad

  • Packaging is a rip-off of Maybelline’s
  • Does not adhere to moist parts of the lips, resulting in an uneven application
  • Plasticky taste and smell

I would neither purchase this nor recommend it to anyone. Ever Bilena’s matte lipsticks have much better reviews, so we’re better off buying that. Even Aido’s fifty-peso lipsticks are better than this. If you like the packaging, go buy Maybelline.
