Highfaluting

Once, after reading a research paper of mine, a classmate accused me of using highfaluting English. I don’t know if she really meant to say my English was pompous or if she was merely saying my English was complicated. If it’s the latter, I would have to agree because, rereading my college papers now, some of my sentence constructions were so convoluted I couldn’t understand them myself. You have to understand, though, psychological journals are written in this manner.
